Carl Sagan's Timeline

Carl Sagan's Timeline

Just get your mind around this.

I ask myself, when thinking about a God/Goddess, how could I ever know?  How can we know?  Look at how insignificant we are in our infinite ignorance.

ROSE - HIP WINE

3 pounds of rose hips
3 pounds of sugar
1 gallon boiling water

Wash the rose hips and cut them in half.

Put them in large bowl and pour boiling water on them.

Stir well with wooden spoon.

Cover bowl and leave for two weeks.

Strain off liquid into another bowl and add three pounds of sugar.

Stir until dissolved.

Cover bowl and leave for 5 days, stirring daily.

Bottle, remembering to cork loosely at first, and store in a cool, dark place.

Push in corks when wine has finished fermenting.

It will be ready to drink in 6 months.

Self Remembering

“Everyone suffers, with or without a school,” Robert Burton has said. “We are trying to use our suffering, rather than being used by it.”

Year after year, Robert Burton’s students have come to him with their questions, their problems, their protests. Year after year, with unfaltering patience, he has taught that the only true solutions to any perceived “problem” lie in our efforts to self-remember and to transform our suffering. However justified one’s complaints, however unjust the events of one’s life, one has no choice but to embrace them all.

This wider acceptance is the key to the actual transformation of negative emotions into higher consciousness, which creates the capacity for selfless love and is the true meaning behind every spiritual teaching. What the individual gains through this process may then be radiated outward for the benefit of others.

“There is a secret,” Robert Burton said once, “that is almost too sacred to tell. The secret is: what one gains, all gain.”"

Introduction to Animal Totems

Animals, like us, are conscious.  They feel pain, have memories, and are intuitive.

The animal world follows the Universe's rhythms so say the Esoteric schools.  Accordingly, as the other conscious creatures, we can align ourselves with animal energies.

We are said by the Schools to be born with life totems.  An animal to which you feel a special affinity is probably your totem(s) and you should look into the characteristics of the animal; how and what it eats, its nature, its habitat, its enemies (the Shadow Self in mystic translation), etc.

Some totems come to us for a short while.   Seeing a lot of turtles lately?  Dreaming about snakes for some reason?  Could be the animal medicine is there for you if you take the time to observe it.

Ted Andrews' book Animal Speak  is highly recommended if you are interested in finding out more about this.

It's June, So Here's Something About Weddings

Pagan Handfasting

Handfasting is non religion specific, in other words, it is not Pagan or Christian, however it has become a favored Wedding ceremony for Wiccans and Pagan groups. Wiccan or Pagan ceremonies may involve different rituals such as forming a circle with stones, flowers or crystals. A ritual used in some Pagan, Wiccan and also Christian ceremonies, has the couple jumping over a broom. Jumping over the broom represents crossing over a threshold into a new life together.

The threshold was once the piece of wood at the home's doorstep that kept the floor in, or, the thresh.  Thresh was a 'carpeting of hay.'

The Theban Alphabet

Here's a good paper to investigate:  What is the history and uses of the Witch's Alphabet?
